This is exactly the book I have been looking for. Rich’s inclusion and explication of quotes—many of which are famous—just shows the importance of understanding multiple perspectives of history and claims of ethical behavior. This text is one that I think about often; even small ethical situations that I encounter daily keep me considering some of the contexts of these quotes. I am so grateful to own this book!

Helpful to understand the nexus of philosophy and religion, a connection I had not considered. Sometimes people profess religious arguments blindly because the minister said. Looking forward to reading it again.

Quotes of our great philosophers through the ages, which really puts our religions and ethics in context. Not a pretty context, but a fascinating and mindboggling book. The highlight is the debate between the author and his close friend, who happens to be a Catholic Brother. Extremely interesting. cribes of the Tribe: The Great Thinkers on Religion and Ethics (Myths & Scribes)

Quotes from all the great philosophers throughout the ages. Amazing how interesting that can be. Plus the book features opposite arguments for every point. Very fair analysis.
