Book Review

I must admit this book took me for a loop. This is not a normal genre I read in but I thought the overview was enough to interest to give it a try. It was not at all what I thought it would be in a good way. It drew me in which is difficult to do in this genre. I would highly recommend it. It took the story and wove it slowly but not too slow that you lose interest. It built to a wonderful crescendo and I would read it again. Even I am surprised at my reaction. Take a chance and read it you won't regret it!

Myths of the Tribe: When Religion and Ethics Diverge provides an interesting and in-depth exploration of the history of religion in general, especially the catholic and protestant faiths in relationship to ethics and social issues facing the globe. I recommend this book if you are looking for some insight into religion and what religions say about certain social issues.

The author must have taken years to research and write this book. This is the kind of stuff you really don't learn in school. Tells about the origins of the world's major religions and how they correspond to the problems we face today, from illegal drugs to abortion and ethics in general. Absolutely fascinating reading.

Historical analysis of the relationship between ethics and religion that never bogs down. Very interesting, especially on victimless crimes.

A very interesting treatise on how ethics & religion are often separated. A fascinating analysis of the history and current application of the major world religions to the ethical problems of today. Reinforced my belief that most organized religions are at the root of the worlds problems regarding military conflicts, terrorism, most types of extremism, and a general disbelief in scientific facts. Well worth the read!
